On November 13th – 15th 2017, SAC President Ariana Chasse had the honour of attending the College Student Alliance’s annual Advocacy Summit. This event takes place in Toronto and is a wonderful opportunity to meet with MPPS and promote important and current student issues. This conference includes two days of workshops and preparation for MPP Meetings. This year students in attendance worked together on an issues brief and pitch practice, attended a suicide intervention training, a Blanket Ceremony, and met with Keynote Speaker Dave Meslin, a prominent political advocate in Toronto. Issues pitched this year to our MPPS were Food Security, Mental Health, and the Faculty Strike. Ariana met with MPP Peggy Sattler, MPP Lorne Coe, MPP France Gelinas, as well as Honorable Minister Deb Matthews from the Ministry of Advanced Education and Skills Development to discuss the Student Reimbursement Fund.
“This is an amazing experience and being able to advocate on a larger scale for the issues my students are facing is so rewarding. It’s great to see that student leaders are really making a difference!”
